Adding a DOS Printer
The window titled Adding a DOS Printer is used to add a new printer to your IBS DOS Printer Control File (IBSDP1.TPS). The window titled Changing a DOS Printer is used to change any of the information in IBS DOS Printer Control File for the selected printer. The window titled Deleting a DOS Printer is used to delete the selected printer from the IBS DOS Printer Control File.
The IBS DOS Printer Control File contains the printer decimal control codes for each of the printers that you will be using with the IBS System. These control codes are a series of characters which are sent to the printer and interpreted by that printer as controls and not as text to be printed. Not all printers recognize the same control codes. Most dot-matrix printers recognize the Epson printer control codes and most laser printers recognize the Hewlett-Packard Laser Jet II printer control codes. Your printer's specific control codes should be located in the printer manual or you can contact the manufacturer for these codes.
Printer Name: Enter the name of the printer in this field. The IBS DOS Printer Control Code File will be indexed in the order of this Printer Name field.
Default Printer Port: Press the Ú to the right of this field to select the appropriate default printer port for this printer. The available options are PRN, LPT1, LPT2, LPT3, or LPT4.
Print Styles 1 - 9: There are nine different print styles which can be set up in this file. The names of the first five styles are pre-set (Pica Regular, Pica High Quality, Elite Regular, Elite High Quality, Compressed). Styles 6 to 9 are totally user-definable.
There are ten possible characters which can be sent to the printer as the printer control code. These are in Decimal format. For example, the Epson code for Pica Regular is the Esc code followed by the "!". The ASCII Decimal equivalent for the Esc code is "27" and the ASCII Decimal equivalent for the "!" is "33". Since there are no more characters in this code, the remaining characters must all be set to "0" (zero). Consequently this code would be set up as:

[ Add ] This button will be available if you pressed the [Insert] button on the Select DOS Printer window to add a new printer to your IBS DOS Printer Control File. Press this button to add this new printer to the IBS DOS Printer Control Code File and return to the previous window.
[ Save ] This button will be available if you pressed the [Change] button on the Select DOS Printer window to change the information for an existing printer. Press this button to save any changes made to this printer in the IBS DOS Printer Control File and return to the previous window.
[ Delete ] This button will be available if you pressed the [Delete] button on the Select DOS Printer window to delete a printer from the IBS DOS Printer Control File. Press this button to confirm your desire to delete this printer from the IBS DOS Printer Control File and return to the previous window.
[ Cancel ] Press this button to close this window and return to the previous window. NOTE: If you make any changes and then press this [Cancel] button, a window titled Save Record will open which asks "Do you want to save the changes to this record?". Please see Save Record for additional information.
